DESCRIPTION:We invite you to the 6th Else Lasker-Schüler Annual Lecture on the topic of „Missed encounters: Else Lasker-Schüler\, Leah Goldberg\, and Zelda Mishkovsky at Cafe Zichel in Jerusalem\, 1940s“ \nWith the rise of the Nazis to power\, the Jewish-German poet Else Lasker-Schüler\, admired among cultured people in Germany\, had to flee to Jerusalem. Having no livelihood and no knowledge of Hebrew\, Lasker-Schüler spent her last days in Jerusalem as a beggar. Every day\, she would come to the Zichel Cafe on King George Street\, asking a different customer to pay for her. One day\, the poet Leah Goldberg encountered her\, a meeting she later wrote about. \n\nProf. Sidra DeKoven Ezrachi\, Professor Emerita of Comparative Literature\, Hebrew University of Jerusalem\nDr. Jan Kühne\, Research Associate\, Franz Rosenzweig Minerva Research Center\, Hebrew University of Jerusalem\nDr. Asif Rahamim\, Freie Universität Berlin\n\nThe event will take place on Tuesday\, May 21\, 2024\, at 19:00 (Jerusalem Time).  \nIt will be held at the institute and conducted in English.
